The total exposure is obviously too short for this object but that is not the point here. Did choose M1 as this object is kind of middle-of-the-road when it comes to surface brightness among the brighter deep sky objects. Here is a series of Messier 1 (Crab nebula) taken with the same integrated exposure time but different amount of sub exposures. ![]() In a pretty commonly light polluted area what about sampling lots of short subs instead of a few longer ones? Any difference? How good or how bad? Am a fan of shorter subs now that CMOS image sensors have occupied my home.
